Shaping Rack vs Adjustable Shaping Rack | Which One Suits Your Workflow?
Share
If you're setting up a shaping bay, a proper workshop, or just a cleared out corner of the garage you'll eventually hit the same question: which shaping rack do you actually need? Both of ours adjust for height, so it's less a fixed-vs-flexible debate than you'd think, and more about how much flexibility your workflow calls for. Here's the honest breakdown, no sales pitch attached.
Shaping Rack
This is the one we brought back by popular demand, an oldie, but a goodie. It's height-adjustable, fully welded from solid steel, and bolts straight to the floor through pre-drilled holes, so once it's in place it isn't going anywhere. The saddle's a deep, heavy-duty rubber-lined cradle that holds a board securely and comfortably while you shape, sand or repair.
It's built for home shapers and pros alike — straightforward, no-nonsense, and tough enough to live in a busy workshop or shed for years. If you want a stable, height-adjustable rack without paying for features you won't use, this is it.
Adjustable Shaping Rack
Our newest addition takes the same solid, fully welded build and adds a genuine upgrade: it adjusts both height and length, not just height, so it moves to suit different board sizes, a shortboard one job, a longboard the next without needing a second rack.
That extra length adjustment is the real difference maker if you're working on a range of board lengths, or sharing the bay with other people who've all got their own boards on the go. You're not locked into one saddle position and living with it, it moves with the job.
So which one's right for you?
Honestly — if you mostly shape or repair boards of a similar length, the standard Shaping Rack already gives you height adjustment, a rock solid floor mounted base, and genuine value at $425. If your boards range from a shortboard to a longboard, or more than one person uses the bay, the extra $50 for the Adjustable buys you length adjustment on top of height.
There's only $50 between them, $425 for the Shaping Rack, $475 for the Adjustable Rack and that gap buys you length adjustment on top of height. Both are solid, fully-welded steel with the same deep, rubber-lined saddle for comfort; the Adjustable is simply the newer, more flexible sibling of a rack we've been making for years.
Built to last, either way
Both racks come out of the same workshop, with the same 40+ years of sheet metal know-how behind every G-Force rack — heavy-gauge steel, no shortcuts, no wobble. Whichever one ends up in your bay, it's built to still be there in a decade.
